Hi there! I’m Amanda Davis, a health services and policy researcher focused on healthcare participation among high-need Medicare populations, particularly dual-eligible beneficiaries and older adults with complex social and functional needs.
My research sits at the intersection of policy, care delivery, and lived reality, driven by a central question: why do healthcare reforms designed to expand access and improve self-management so often fail the patients who need them most? I study how healthcare systems assume patients can navigate insurance, use digital health tools, coordinate care, and manage chronic illness, and how those assumptions break down under conditions of cognitive, functional, social, and structural constraint. My work aims to inform policies and care models that make participation in healthcare realistically achievable, not merely theoretically available.
What distinguishes my research is that it is grounded not only in rigorous methodological training, but also in nearly two decades of leadership experience inside the healthcare systems I now study. Across my career, I have led enterprise-level analytics, population health, and value-based care initiatives for high-need populations. In these roles, I worked at the intersection of data, policy, operations, and care delivery, translating analytic insights into real-world decisions that shaped program design, system performance, and population-level outcomes.
I completed my PhD in Health Services Research at Boston University School of Public Health in 2025, building on this foundation of applied healthcare leadership and research. Because my work is informed by both operational experience and rigorous research training, I bring a practice-informed perspective that allows me to identify problems that are not only theoretically important, but deeply consequential in the everyday lives of patients and providers.
